As I picture what might trip to Sydney might look like, this is what I see. After reading the chapter of Sydney in my Eyewitness Travel Australia book, I found a lot of fun and interesting things to do in Sydney! So, lets get started on this trip of a lifetime!
Sydney is normally divided up into four areas. Those areas are commonly called the Rocks and Circular Quay, The City Centre, Kings Cross, and the Botanic Gardens. The Rocks and Circular Quay are the oldest part of inner Sydney, the City Centre is where you would find the central business district, Darling Harbour is where one could find Chinatown, and last but not least the Botanic Gardens which is practically the heart of the city with what they like to call a "green oasis".
One of the hot spots in Sydney that I found to be interesting was the Lord Nelson Hotel. In Australia they are not called bars, but instead are called hotels. The Lord Nelson Hotel is a traditional pub that opened in 1834 and is known for its specially brewed beers available on tap. Looks like we will need to check this place out!
For those who don't want to spend a lot of time in the pub, there is also a tremendous Art Gallery of New South Whales that is extremely popular. It is one of the most premier art galleries in the world! Also if you want to take a better look at all the Harbours, there are harbour cruises available that they claim is an "incomparable way to see the city and its waterways".
Some might wonder how the Suez Canal being a part of the Rocks and Circular Quay portion got its name. After reading the book, I discovered that by 1900 the rocks were overrun by diseases. As we know today, the street is known as the Suez canal but once was the called the "Sewer's Canal".
Sydney Harbour Bridge is another tourist site in Sydney. They completed this bridge in 1932. Something I found interesting was that it cost approx. 6.25 million old Australian pounds and was not paid off until 1988!
One place that I really hope we get a chance to go to is the Sydney Tower. This tower is capable of withstanding earthquakes and extreme wind and stands 98 ft tall. One million people per year visit the tower that has a virtual adventure ride called the Oztrek or you can even venture outside for the skywalk tour.
For all you girls that are going to Sydney, you must know that the best shopping centre is located in the Queen Victoria Building. If you so choose to go to the high end stores then they are located in the Sydney Central Plaza! SHOPPING! SCORE! :)
Something interesting for all to know....Sunday night is gay night in Sydney and Wednesday night is lesbian night in Sydney. Just a couple of facts that we might need to know on our trip.
There are so many things to do in Sydney, and we won't be able to see half of them! These are the things that I see as major tourism sites in Sydney. I CANT WAIT TO GET THERE MATES! :)
